Gist ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our iOS application handles your information.
TL;DR: Your data stays on your device. We don't collect, store, or transmit your personal information to our servers. Your API keys are stored securely in iOS Keychain and never leave your device.
Information We Don't Collect
Gist is designed with privacy as a core principle. We do not collect:
- Personal identification information
- Usage analytics or telemetry
- Browsing history or URLs you summarize
- Content of your summaries
- Your API keys or authentication credentials
- Location data
- Device identifiers
Data Storage
On Your Device
All data generated by Gist is stored locally on your device:
- API Keys: Stored securely in iOS Keychain, encrypted by the operating system
- Summary History: Stored locally on your device only
- App Settings: Stored in local app storage
Third-Party AI Services
When you use Gist, the app sends content directly to your chosen AI provider using your own API key. This communication happens directly between your device and the AI provider. We are not an intermediary and do not have access to this data.
The AI providers you may connect to include:
- Anthropic (Claude)
- OpenAI (GPT)
- Google (Gemini)
- xAI (Grok)
- OpenRouter
Each provider has their own privacy policy governing how they handle data. We encourage you to review their respective privacy policies.
Voice Synthesis
Audio playback is generated using on-device or third-party text-to-speech services as configured. When using third-party voice services, your summary text is sent directly from your device to the voice provider.
No Account Required
Gist does not require you to create an account. There is no user registration, login, or authentication with our servers.
Data Sharing
We do not share, sell, rent, or trade any information with third parties because we do not collect any information.
Children's Privacy
Gist is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Security
Your API keys are stored using iOS Keychain, which provides hardware-level encryption. All network communications use HTTPS/TLS encryption.
Your Rights
Since all your data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control over it:
- Access: View your data within the app
- Delete: Use the "Reset App" feature in Settings to delete all data
- Export: Your summary history is stored locally and accessible on your device

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
